Amarone della Valpolicella DOC Riserva 2003

The sumptuous, aristocratic forefather of all the family’s products, it stands out thanks to the presence of the ancient Oseleta grape, which has always been cultivated by the family in the most suitable sites for this variety. This wine is made from the finest bunches from the Roccolo di Mizzole and Castello crus, situated in the Valpantena (the eastern zone of Valpolicella). The grapes are carefully selected, picked by hand and laid out to wither in our drying loft, where they remain for several months (so as to concentrate their aromas and sugar content) before being fermented. This outstanding wine is produced in a limited number of bottles, in order to celebrate the history and tradition of the family and pay tribute to the founders of the company.

This is a rich and powerful Amarone, on the nose it reveals notes of cherries, red fruit preserve, leather, tobacco, liquorice, cocoa and a delicate nuance of vanilla. The wine displays great forcefulness as it enters the mouth, as well as concentrated fruit on the palate. Its barely perceptible sweetness gives way in the aftertaste to a very faint bitter cherry note, typical of the classic Amarone style. On the extremely persistent finish we once again find the spicy sensations we noted on the nose, along with a suggestion of underbrush.

Food parings
A wine that can be savoured on its own or served with rich red meat or game recipes; another unusual but interesting pairing is with dark chocolate.
